As you have seen from previous posts, the Sierra Nevada’s are still covered in snow, preventing any trail riding on these mountains whatsoever. Fortunately for us Nevadans, there are over 300 other mountain ranges to pick from. Sunday’s adventure began 20 miles east of Carson City in the mostly snowless Flowery Range, on [...]

This weekend’s ride is a go. The weather looks to be cooperating and most of the snow should be melted off the trail by then.
Ride description: The first two miles of the ride will be on a double track that will provide a good warm-up and an opportunity to socialize before hitting the singletrack. [...]

Trail Conditions
This is a picture from the top of the Kings Canyon road climb. As you can see, the southern exposures have melted, but anything that does not get direct sun still has quite a bit of snow on it. There is hope for a taste of singletrack in the near future if [...]

In the recent issue of VeloNews, columnist Wayne K. Sheldrake writes about the various items ( road swag ) he has found along the highway while out riding his bike.
That got me to thinking of the treasures I’ve found during the many miles I’ve logged on Hwy. 50. One of the best scores was [...]

I drove out to Stagecoach today to check on the Iron Mountain Trail. I built this trail about seven years ago when we lived at Iron Mountain and I haven’t been back since we moved into Carson two years ago. Not many people know about the trail, so I thought it would be overgrown [...]

Sunday, Amy and I decided to take a twenty mile spin around Carson on our road tandem. With the unseasonably warm temps pushing mid 50’s, hopping on the road bike sounded better than slogging through mud on our mountain bikes.
With no specific ride plan in mind, we pedaled north towards our usual route, but [...]

As we move into winter’s snow, mud, and ice, road biking suddenly becomes more appealing to me. Most of the trails are now under snow, but there are still miles of smooth, ice-free blacktop to be ridden. Nevada’s winter days almost always warm up to the mid 30’s, keeping the roads pretty dry.
Sunday was [...]

Last week when the weather was sort of mild, Mike of Reno’sTeam Bacon Strip and I talked about riding this Sunday. The weather turned foul at the end of the week, and I was thinking of calling off the Sunday Ride. How good could the riding be after a couple days of snow? [...]
